Class Description

This level is for swimmers who are comfortable going underwater and learning the fundamentals of swimming but cannot swim independently.

Requirements to join level

Must be able to:

  • Sit independently without parent or guardian in the water
  • Listen and follow directions
  • Willing to put their face in the water on command
  • Swim independently with the noodle / floatation
Focus: Body Position and Air Recovery
Learning Objectives
  1. Ask permission to get in the water
  2. Bob 5 times exchanging air
  3. Kick on back with flotation for 10 feet
  4. Kick on front with flotation for 10 feet
  5. Front float independently for 5 seconds
  6. Back float independently for 5 seconds
  7. Front glide with kick for 5 feet
  8. Reach and pull arm movements for 5 feet (Reach and Pull)
  9. Elementary backstroke for 10 feet (only arm pull is necessary)
  10. Enter water by jumping from the side of the pool
  11. Tread water for 10 seconds
Safety Skill: Know how to put on a life jacket
Exit Skill: Jump from side of the pool, freestyle 10 feet, tread water for 10 seconds, elementary backstroke back to the side of the pool
